Afternoon, fam. Welcome to episode one of Bucked Spotlight. Starting this off strong! Let me introduce to you, Dawnyail Sutton, a 27-year-old wife and stepmother of three. Her story isn’t pretty, but gosh golly, the real (inspiring) ones rarely are.
As an early teen, she was a top-notch athlete — fastest, strongest, hardest working — but then Life happened. Not to be confused with life, Life (capital L) is that moment when the veil is lifted and we’re exposed to reality. When — pardon my french — crud gets real.
Dawnyail entered high school — for many of us the equivalent of hell on earth — where she lost focus, lost sight of her goals, then fell into a depression that drove her to what some of my old AA buddies called “The Drink.” (In other words, alcohol abuse.) She was speeding down a road to nowhere, in a car that needed an oil change 700 miles ago.
At 26, she started truly feeling the weight of years’ worth of heavy drinking. She knew she had to do something about it or the aforementioned nowhere would take her to a definite somewhere…that looked an awful lot like a cliff. With her husband deployed, she embraced her change.
- No excuses
- No one to point the finger at
- Now or never
Tell us about your transformation and what inspired it.
What inspired me to start my fitness journey, and helped my transformation the most, was my husband and kids. I woke up one day, for the last time hating myself, how I looked, and even more so how I felt! I wanted, and want to be the healthiest, happiest, version of myself, so I can be the wife and mom that they deserve.
What was your biggest obstacle and how did you overcome it?
My hardest obstacle to overcome, was/is not drinking and not running to the bar after work to drink the day’s issues away. Breaking the habit of thinking I was going to solve my problems with alcohol or complaining about how unhappy I was to the next person. Overcoming this was not easy by any means, but one day I woke up (hardly) feeling the worst I had ever felt in 26 years and I honestly thought I was going to die that day.
- I had let my husband down who was deployed overseas, and thousands of miles away.
- I let my step kids down who were with me for the weekend to go riding dirtbikes.
- I let myself down!
THAT was it.
I quit and never looked back. I got my crap together, quit drinking every day, go to the gym 5 to 6 times a week for an hour to 2 a night, and just made it an absolute priority. I started putting my health, my happiness, and my families well being first, fiercely!
How has Bucked Up helped with your journey?
I first started using bucked up when my husband had told me about some of his friends using it on deployment. WOW, how life-changing! I was struggling to get the energy after 10+ hour days of work to get into the gym and give my all for the 2 hours I was determined to spend working on my body!
I first tried WOKE AF from my local GNC, my first can in I KNEW I had found the supplement brand for me! I wanted to learn more about the company and about the product! Before I knew it I was filling out the form to be an ambassador! I started using the BCAA’s, HEAT for her, Digestive Enzymes also. I have noticed an unbelievable increase in my strength,* but especially my endurance lessened fatigue!* I am recovering faster and able to train harder because of it!*
The family and support system that the bucked up brand has created for me and all of us ambassadors is amazing! Everyone is helpful, friendly, and motivating! I couldn’t be any more pleased with the results and transformation bucked up products have helped me achieve!
What do you do for motivation?
I try to stay motivated by always wanting to outdo myself from the week or day before! I try to interact and be a part of groups and other people with similar interests and similar outlooks on life. I just stay looking forward and looking at what I can do better or do next, not what I did or have done already. Change takes action!
What are your favorite Bucked Up products and flavors?
- ANYTHING ROCKET POP FLAVOR!!!
- I love WOKE AF pre work out
- and the BCAA’s for during my work outs!
- For everyday life, the rocket pop and blue raz energy drinks are out of this world amazing! Energy without the jittery feeling now or the crash later!*
What was the one thing that most impacted your success?
My mindset and dedication! Without the “I AM GOING TO DO THIS” mindset I wouldn’t have made it to where I am now. I have had to miss out on a lot of fun social events, say no to drinks, say no to dinners, say no to lunches, to prove to myself and my family that I CAN and WILL be better, healthier, and stronger than ever before! Without dedication, commitment, and a passion for fitness, I feel like I would have quickly fallen right back into my old habits.
Any advice you’d like to give to people looking to start their own journey?
It’s NEVER too late to start taking better care of yourself and start the journey to a happier healthier lifestyle! Be fierce in your decisions, do every last bit of your work out wholeheartedly! GO IN AND FIGHT FOR WHAT YOU WANT!!!
Thanks, Dawnyail!
