Are you struggling with making gains, focusing, fat loss, or other? Then chances are you could be experiencing the less than ideal effects of low testosterone.
In today’s article we’ll go over one popular method for boosting those testosterone levels. That method is, of course, supplementing with a fame-garnering supplement known as D-Aspartic Acid.
Testosterone in a nutshell

Before we get into what makes D-Aspartic Acid a powerful tool, let’s take a really shallow dive into the hormone that D-Aspartic Acid positively augments: testosterone.
Testosterone is a hormone that’s well-known for its significant roles in muscle building and libido.*
Science has recently discovered, however, that these are only some of the areas in which testosterone can affect our lives. It can also aid in:
D-Aspartic Acid, and the Answer to the Great Question
Ever wonder what D-Aspartic Acid and Douglas Adams have in common? Probably not. In order to ponder such things you’d have to have (1) stumbled upon some interesting clinical studies, and (2) read The Hitchhiker’s Guide To The Galaxy series.

You see, in the legendary science fiction novel, it is discovered that the Answer to the Great Question of Life, the Universe, and Everything is forty-two (note: you’ll want to remember that number).
The answer took Deep Thought( a computer) seven and a half million years to figure out. Its programmers were not pleased. And, of course, because computers with the ability to answer The Great Question must be very thorough, Deep Thought pointed out that the problem with their purported Great Question is that when it really boils down to it, those to pose said question never really knew what the question was.
Now, lucky for us, times have changed. If we travel into the future (upon the time that Deep Thought figures out the Answer) and extrapolate the necessary data, then we can actually rather easily discover that The Great Question is, always has been, and always will be…
“What percentage do we need to increase our testosterone by in order to reap the truest of epic gains?”
And this, my friends, is where D-Aspartic Acid comes in…
But, we’ll circle back to that in a second. First, let’s look at what D-Aspartic Acid actually is.
What is D-Aspartic Acid?
D-Aspartic Acid (or D-AA) is a non-essential amino acid. For those who don’t know, amino acids are molecules with several functions in the body. As an example, amino acids are the building blocks of all types of protein, as well as certain hormones and neurotransmitters. The most popular of these amino acids, Branched Chain Amino Acids (BCAAs) you probably already take on a regular basis (and, if you don’t, then open this in a new tab to find out why you should).
There are primarily two categories of amino acids: essential and non-essential. Non-essential doesn’t mean this category of amino acids isn’t necessary, but rather that our body can make them on its own — from essential amino acids, which we get from food.
Unlike many amino acids that are used to build proteins, D-AA plays a role in making and releasing hormones in the body.*
Unfortunately, as we get older, the levels of D-AA in our body drops as the production slows down. Which is, as you can imagine, less than ideal.
It’s important to note that the aforementioned luteinizing hormone is strongly linked to testosterone. In men, a release of this hormone triggers T production.*
That being said, it’s pretty easy to connect the dots: Optimal levels of D-AA can encourage elevated levels of the big T.*
Effects on Testosterone
Research on the effects of D-AA on testosterone has yielded, admittedly, somewhat mixed results. Some studies have shown negligible effects, whereas others have revealed quite the opposite: unbelievable increases in testosterone levels.*
Taking a look at my favorite of these studies (and the one I mentioned above, relating to a guide through the galaxy [sans towell]): One revelatory study in healthy men aged 27-37 examined the effects of taking D-Aspartic Acid supplements for 12 days.
What the labcoats found was that 20 out of the 23 men taking D-Aspartic Acid had higher testosterone levels at the end of the study.*
If you were paying attention earlier, then you can probably guess the exact (average) percentage by which the subjects’ testosterone levels increased.
Yup. These guys increased their testosterone by an average of 42%.*
In case you’re not good with numbers, let me provide you with an example of just how stupidly high that increase is…

Example: A scrawny noob walks into the gym for the first time. He weighs 150lbs. Over the course of the next year, he packs on about 42% of his initial bodyweight, in muscle. That scrawny dude gained 63 freaking pounds, and now weighs in at an awe-inspiring 213 pounds.
Now, I’m not saying that by taking D-AA you will automatically gain 42% of your weight in muscle. That was just to illustrate how utterly ridiculous a 42% increase (in literally anything) is. But the fact remains that such an incredible increase could have an astonishingly profound impact on your gainz.*
Now, before we continue, I’d be remiss to leave out an important detail: Three days after the ‘subjects’ stopped taking the supplement, their T levels did drop from 42%. But, even with the decrease, their testosterone were still 22% higher than at the beginning of the study.*
Suppositional Benefits of D-Aspartic Acid
Because of D-AA’s role in testosterone, there’s a high likelihood that it could deliver some of the following benefits:
- Improved muscle recovery*
- Hypertrophic gains*
- Increased strength*
- Decreased brain fog*
- Elevated mood & motivation*
Recommended Dosage
Most studies examining the effects of D-Aspartic Acid on testosterone have used doses of 2.6-3 grams per day.
Research has shown a bit of mixed results regarding its efficacy (blame “controlled” studies), but an impressive amount has shown doses around 3 grams per day to be effective.
Don’t Panic: D-AA is available to Save Your Gainz
So, if you’ve been feeling a little sluggish lately, struggling with meeting those gainz you’ve always dreamed of, then I have only three pieces of advice for you:
