Not all pre-workouts are built for the same job.
This guide breaks down the Bucked Up lineup by training intent, so you can stop guessing and start choosing — instead of realizing six months from now you’ve been using a strength-focused formula when what you really wanted was abs.

Welcome to the Bucked Up Library — I’ll Be Your Pagemaster
Look, we have a lot of pre-workout formulas.
Not “a couple of options,” a lot — an entire library of formulas designed for different training styles, stimulant tolerances, and goals.
In fact, the lineup is big enough that Jorge Luis Borges could’ve compared it to The Library of Babel, and even Portland’s Powell’s Books might slow clap. (If those references went over your head, no worries, they weren’t meant for you. This article for sure is though.)
If you’ve ever scrolled through our lineup and thought, “Okay, cool…where the buck do I even start?” — you’re not alone. We’ve all been there. And I’ve got you.
By the time you finish reading this guide, you’ll have a clear understanding of each Bucked Up pre-workout formula, what it’s designed to support, and how to choose the one that aligns with your training goals, stimulant tolerance, and preferences. You’ll also know how to experiment and adapt over time — because goals change, tolerance changes, and training isn’t static (if yours is static, you might consider the possibility that you’re doing something wrong).
With great power comes great responsibility.
We already have the power part covered. This guide exists to help you use it intelligently — just like Uncle Ben would want. (RIP, we miss you.)
To make things easier, we’ve organized our pre-workouts into clear categories based on training intent, not arbitrary rankings. No Dewey Decimal System required.

Here’s what we’ll be covering:
- Bucked Up — our flagship, all-around pre-workout
- BAMF — high-stim, nootropic-forward energy*
- WOKE AF — one of the OGs, built around a triforce of stimulants
- LFG — a performance-focused formula often chosen by those chasing & chiseling body recomposition
- 100 Series — Bucked Up, WOKE AF, and LFG with reduced caffeine (because your adrenals may matter someday)
- BLACK Series — for you freaks who care as much about cleansing your eternal soul as you do training like a sinner.
- PUMPOCALYPSE — need I say more?
- Mother Bucker — our only pre-workout that terrifies me; only for lifters so hardcore they verge even closer to insanity than I do (that’s saying something)
- Black Ant — aside from being Lovecraftian-tier terrors, the thing black ants are actually known for is what inspired this pre-workout: power levels over 9,000
- Big Bucks — nootropic-forward energy for those chasing focus* as much as intensity*
- Babe Pre-Workout — a female-focused pre-workout built around formulation needs, not pink-label marketing (and yes, it is taking all my willpower not to call out the near-countless offenders, but if you know any of those companies by name, chances are they’re on my hate-list and you should love yourself enough to switch to Babe Pre-Workout immediately)
- Bucked Up Non-Stim — for the days when sleep matters, so…Sunday?

Before we go on, it’s imperative you know this: We never use proprietary blends. Why? Because we have this weird thing called integrity …okay, it also might be that we’re possibly just a little egotistical, so obviously we’re going to flex the fact that we do everything better (i.e. give you the doses of quality ingredients you deserve).
Now, put on your thinking cap, kids — class is in session.
Wait. One thing first.
Because I’m a considerate teacher, this article isn’t meant to be an entire quarter’s worth of lessons. Think of it as your syllabus. Each pre-workout we cover here has its own individual lesson — and if one catches your eye, you can dive deeper from there.
For now, this guide is about helping you understand what each formula is, who it’s for, and where it fits, so you can choose with confidence instead of falling victim to paralysis by analysis.
Author’s Note: Many of the ingredients referenced throughout this guide have been studied individually for their roles in performance, energy, blood flow, and focus. These studies were conducted on individual ingredients in isolation or within other research contexts — not on Bucked Up’s finished products or specific formulations. Where relevant, ingredient-level research is explored in more detail within the associated individual formula breakdown articles.
When You Need Maximum Energy: High-Stimulant Pre-Workouts (no, always doesn’t count)
This category is for lifters who don’t want subtlety. High-stim pre-workouts are built for intensity — early mornings, brutal sessions, and days where energy and focus need to be undeniable.
Or, you know — if you’re team #norestdays, have a shrine to Goggins, and age hasn’t haymakered you into needing to outthink instead of just outwork. (I hate you because I’m jealous. I’m also proud of you. Keep it up, Buck.)
High-stim pre-workouts typically feature higher caffeine levels alongside ingredients commonly used to support alertness and mental focus during training.
Excluding the obvious, like doing dropsets until you’ve got blurred-vision-vertigo, these pre-workouts are most often used for high-intensity sessions, early morning workouts, or days when training demands extra drive and concentration (if your immediate reaction to that last part of Oxford’s commas was “so, all the time?,” then I’m guessing your idea of comfort zone is probably outside anything resembling a comfort zone. If I’m right – I am – this category of pre’s is perfect for you).
Because of their stimulant content, these formulas are generally better suited for experienced users or those too young to know any better. In other words, they may not be ideal for late-evening training or for individuals who are sensitive to caffeine.

Big Bucks: Big Brains (300mg caffeine)
- High-stim, nootropic-forward pre-workout featuring ingredients like Alpha-GPC, commonly included in formulas designed to support focus* during training.

BAMF: For the Brainiacs (333mg caffeine)
- Long-standing high-stim formula featuring caffeine alongside complementary performance-support ingredients for intense training sessions.

WOKE AF: Triple Stim (333mg caffeine)
- One of the original high-stim offerings, featuring three RPG-epic stimulant sources. Think of this one as your triforce in the quest to overcome Gannondorf, save Zelda, and most importantly, make gainz. (And yes, nerd — I’m keenly aware the metaphor doesn’t quite work, but it sounds cool, so just let me have this.)

Mother Bucker: Seriously, you probably aren’t ready for this one. (300mg caffeine: 100mg extended release caffeine)
- Advanced high-stim pre-workout featuring a more aggressive stimulant profile, intended for experienced users comfortable with intense formulas.
If you read that section and thought, “Yeah…that’s a lot,” I promise most of us won’t judge you. The next category might be more your style.
Your Everyday Go-To: Balanced Pre-Workouts for Regular Training
Alright, Goldilocks — these bears are for you.
One bowl was way too hot. One bowl was disappointingly cold. But then there was the third — not exciting in a headline-grabbing way, just… right. Same deal with beds. One wrecked your spine, one did absolutely nothing, and one let you actually wake up functional the next day.
Basically, daily drivers live in the perfectly fitted bed — sheets on, corners tucked. Enough energy to train hard, enough focus to stay locked in, and enough restraint that your workout doesn’t turn into a physiological event.
These are the pre-workouts you can actually build a routine around. The ones that show up consistently, don’t hijack your nervous system, and won’t have you staring at the ceiling at 1 a.m. wondering why you made the choices you did. No boss fights. No cutscenes. Just reliable, repeatable performance.

Bucked Up (200mg caffeine)
- The flagship formula designed for balanced energy* and performance,* featuring ingredients like citrulline and beta-alanine commonly included in everyday training formulas.

Bucked Up BLACK (200mg caffeine)
- A variation of the flagship formula that includes humic and fulvic mineral components, created for athletes who value formulation philosophy alongside performance.

100 Series (100mg caffeine): available in Bucked Up, LFG, and WOKE AF
- Reduced-caffeine version of our three OG formulas, built for those who want the same general structure with a lighter stimulant load (not that you asked, but this series is for sure my favorite, especially when stacked with PUMP-OCALYPSE – shhh, don’t tell the other formulas, they’ll get jealous).
When goals get more specialized, that’s where targeted-use pre-workouts come in. Or, if you just feel like treating yourself as your own personal guinea pig to see what happens when you switch things up — like I sometimes do — you’ll probably enjoy these.
That said, speaking from my soapbox, it’s usually smarter to be intentional. I call them targeted-use pre-workouts for a reason.
Target Practice: Pre-Workouts Built for Specific Goals
These formulas exist for a reason — and it’s not vibes. Targeted-use pre-workouts are built around specific goals, not general-purpose “show up and lift” days. They’re for when you know why you’re training the way you are, and you want your pre-workout aligned with that intent.
This is the category for lifters who like experimenting, adapting, or dialing things in based on phases, priorities, or very specific outcomes. (Or, yes, for those of us who occasionally treat ourselves like a controlled experiment — responsibly, of course.)

LFG (300mg caffeine)
- Targeted formula designed with weight-loss-focused training in mind, featuring ingredients commonly included in pre-workouts built to support energy* and intensity* during calorie-restricted phases. (Advanced warning: bring a change of clothes — and do us all a favor, shower before social interactions.)

Babe Pre-Workout (100mg caffeine)
- Female-focused pre-workout built around formulation needs, not pink-label marketing, featuring ingredients commonly used in balanced, everyday training formulas — all without sacrificing your dignity, power, or dat peach pump (do cool kids still say “dat; asking for a friend”).
And in case you didn’t get the message earlier: Babe Pre-Workout is the only female-focused pre-workout formula I don’t hate. I want to quote that old “strong enough for a man, made for a woman” slogan, but what I actually mean is simpler and not cringeworthy-dated — we formulated Babe Pre-Workout with the same attention to quality and detail as our gender-neutral pre-workouts.
It’s not a pink label slapped on a watered-down formula and pushed with marketing to distract from the numbers. Babe Pre-Workout was built intentionally, with performance and practicality in mind. In other words, Babe Pre-Workout isn’t shit. It’s the shit. (Thanks for coming to my TED Talk?)
When the goal shifts from intention to sensation, the next category is all about the pump.
Arnold Said It Best: “The PUMP Is The…”
In the event of an apocalypse, forget gold. Forget currency. Forget your 401(k).
The only thing that will matter is the pump.
Not metaphorically. Literally (wishful thinking).
When the world collapses and resources dry up, the people who survive won’t be the ones chasing numbers on a spreadsheet. They’ll be the ones who can still feel their muscles fill, blood move, veins show up like they’ve got sleeves to rip, jeans to stretch, and zombies to double tap. The pump becomes proof of life. Evidence you’re still in the fight.
Anyway….
…I was daydreaming, sorry.
Pump-focused pre-workouts are built around blood flow,* muscle fullness,* and feel, not stimulation. They’re for hypertrophy days,* accessory work, and anyone who wants to stay locked in without adding caffeine to the equation. Less chaos. More connection. Maximum sensation.

PUMPOCALYPSE (0mg caffeine)
- Pump-focused, non-stimulant formula featuring ingredients commonly included in nitric-oxide and hydration-support blends, designed for lifters who want intense muscle fullness* without stimulants.
So, yeah — when sensation takes a back seat to raw output, the next category is all about strength. Because, we can’t chase the pump and especially if we’re starving due to lack of food in a post-apocalyptic world, our muscle glycogen’s gonna get wrecked, so naturally, you do need strength too. After all, it’s not like any of us are gonna suddenly start following rule #1 and do cardio. That’s weird. (only the strong survive).
When Strength Is the Priority: Performance-Focused, PR Obsessed
This category is about output. Not sensation. Not vibes. Just the ability to move more weight, generate more force, and show up strong when it actually counts.
Strength-focused pre-workouts are typically chosen for heavy training days, lower-rep work, and phases where performance matters more than how the workout feels in the moment. Less distraction. More intent.

Black Ant (300mg caffeine)
- Aside from being literally the scariest things on the planet—and one of the many reasons I pray insects never gain human-level intelligence, because if they do and decide to unionize, we’re bucked —the thing black ants are actually known for is what inspired this pre-workout: absolutely obscene strength.
(No, really—have you seen Honey, I Shrunk the Kids*?)*
Black Ant is built for lifters prioritizing strength* and performance,* featuring ingredients commonly included in formulas designed to support force output* and training intensity.*
And when strength is handled but stimulants aren’t on the menu, the next category strips things back even further.

Non-Stimulant Pre-Workouts
Sometimes the most disciplined move is knowing when not to add stimulants to the equation. Non-stim pre-workouts are built for performance support without caffeine—no energy spikes, no sleep sabotage, no stacking regrets (those belong outside the gym).
These formulas are commonly used for late-night training, stimulant cycling, or by lifters who want full control over when (and how much) caffeine enters the picture. Same intent. Fewer variables. And, like, I guess adrenal health is cool too…
- Bucked Up Non-Stim (0mg caffeine)
- Stimulant-free pre-workout featuring ingredients commonly included in pump and performance-support formulas, designed for athletes who want to train hard without relying on caffeine.
If you’re lifting after work, training twice a day, or just trying to give your nervous system a break, this is where you land.
The Bucked Up Pre-Workout Lineup at a Glance
If you just scrolled to the bottom looking for clarity, that’s fine. I mean, I’m excruciatingly offended and will probably have an existential crisis, but I get it (if I wasn’t a total dweeb, I’d have done the same thing–you have my blessing and respect).
Here’s our full lineup of legendary-tier pre-workout loot — no grinding required (to equip them, that is; taking any of these means you have zero excuse not to grind hard).

Final Thoughts: Choose the Right Pre-Workout
Outside of the obvious — that we’re the best — there is no single “best” pre-workout, only the one that fits your training style, goals, and tolerance right now.
That’s why this guide exists. Not to rank formulas or crown winners, but to help you understand what each pre-workout is designed to do, when it makes sense to use it, and how to choose intentionally instead of guessing.
Start with the category that matches your current goals. Pay attention to how you respond. Adjust when your training changes. That’s how you build a system that actually works — without burning yourself out or chasing the wrong kind of intensity.
Class dismissed. Go lift.
Or, if you’ve already lifted, you could completely check off conquering the day, and…
